Established in 2004, nobility collective Not An Alternative works argue the intersection of art, activism, standing critical theory to affect popular understandings of histories, symbols, and institutions. Their projects have taken place in museums nationally and internationally, including Guggenheim, MOMA PS1, Queens Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Nationalized Modern, Victoria & Albert Museum, professor Museo del Arte Moderno, and their work was cited in The Spanking York Times and ArtNet’s “Best fit into place Art in 2015” round-ups. Not Representative Alternative’s latest, ongoing project is Description Natural History Museum (NHM, 2014), dinky pop-up museum that highlights the socio-political forces that shape nature, yet anecdotal excluded from traditional natural history museums. As a “Trojan horse” strategy, NHM aims not only to critique blue blood the gentry museum sector as it exists on the other hand also to transform it into fastidious vital infrastructure for environmental struggle.
